I spend an agreed period on site under NDA, observing everyday work and speaking with the people doing it. I investigate workflows, handovers, information, equipment, systems and decision-making. Observations and operating data show where efficiency is lost, what causes it and how much time, effort or capacity it consumes.
Identify friction in the organization
I investigate how tasks, responsibilities, management structures and staffing capacity fit together. I identify duplicated work, unnecessary coordination, unclear responsibilities and imbalances in resource allocation. I use the same approach in my research across mathematics, computing and the natural sciences. I question routines, connect observations and look for a more efficient arrangement.
Choose the findings you want explained.
Before the visit, we agree the base fee, observation period and travel and accommodation costs. We also set finding categories and prices, based on company size and scope. I then report the number of findings in each category. You choose which detailed findings to purchase at the agreed prices. For each one, I explain the efficiency loss, quantify its impact using observation and operating data, and give general recommendations. These may concern staffing structure or required tool capabilities. You choose the specific products, people and changes, and decide how to implement them.
